The Land

Olive Grove, Sepia

A study of the same grove worked almost entirely in earth: umber, sienna, and the bare weave of the canvas standing in for sky. Rivky has said she paints the olive tree until she can paint it without color, and then she paints it again with color.

The same grove in sepia — form and shadow only, the color set aside for memory.
